Sustainable Development of Water Resources, Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation: Proceedings of the 32nd WEDC International Conference (CD edition)

The current model of world development is unsustainable, causing increasing stress on resources and the environment. Consequently, water supply and sanitation interventions must support rather than threaten environmental sustainability. This requires that all relevant environmental, institutional, financial, technical and social dimensions are taken into account.

This CD comprises the papers and discussion reports from the 32nd WEDC Conference which focused on the sustainable development of water resources, water supply and environmental sanitation. The WEDC Conference provides a platform for the sharing of ideas, research and experience, and serves to enhance the learning of professionals involved in the water and environmental sanitation sector in low- and middle-income countries. The main body of the Proceedings are arranged in sections based on the four discussion themes of Environmental Sanitation, Institutional Issues, Water Resources and Water Supply. Within these are Special Interest sessions covering Rainwater Harvesting, Water Safety Plans, Decentralization, Achieving International Targets, and GIS/Modelling. Other Special Interest sessions on Emergency Water and Sanitation, and Vulnerable Groups are presented following this. Finally, Panel Discussions on several keys issues are presented.
