Water Use Reduction in the Pulp and Paper Industry 1994 ; Forest Industries R&D and Inovation Program Industry Canada and Canadian Forest Service Natural Resources Canada

The chapters of the Monographs are meant to stand alone for ready use.
The writers begin with a Chapter giving an overview of water quality
requirements for various pulp and paper processes. Chapter 2 gives
guidelines on establishing a water balance. This task can be
difficult, particularly in an older mill, but it is an essential first
step. Chapter 3 describes the unit processes which can be used for
water purification and recycling. The succeeding chapters offers offer
descripyions of water reduction opportunities in chemical pulp mills,
mechanical pulp mills, recycled pulp production and paper and board
production. The authors emphasize that an integrated, global vision of
the mill water use is needed to arrive at the best solutions for
reducing use.
